  Status:Royal Bengal tiger is found throughout out India except in the part of Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab. According to Hindustan Times report dated 04.08.2007 there were 1300 – 1500 tigers in the wild.  
 
 
  Distribution:The cat family is originated from Siberia. Tigers are found in Siberia, Manchuria and the Asian continent, 8 sub-species of the tiger have been distinguished. The Indian race is designated as the typical Tiger. In Asia, India and Malaysia are the two prominent countries where tigers live. The Indian Tigers, the Royal Bengal Tigers are the most graceful animal. The Royal Bengal Tiger is found in the wild across India in protected forests, and in Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, and Myanmar.  
 
 
  Habits:It lives in humid evergreen forests, in dry open jungle, and in the grassy swamps of the terai, while in the Sunderbans it leads almost an amphibious life in a terrain of trees, mud, and water.  
 
 
  Diedt in the Wild:Its diet consists mainly of deer, antelopes, gaurs, and wild pigs. Sometimes it also captures birds, lizards, turtles, fishes, frogs, and crabs. Tigers hunt on their own and usually lead a solitary life in its own territory. They are endowed with good swimming power but seldom climb trees.  
 
 
  Diedt in the Zoo:10 kg Buffalo Calf Meat in the summer while 12 kg Buffalo Calf Meat in the winter. The meat is given 6 days a week.
 
 
 
  Animal in Captivity at NZP:The NZP has 6 Royal Bengal tiger (2:4). The detail of each animal is given as under:
 
  1. Ramu: (D.O.B. 30.08.1992) captive born and brought from Indore Zoo.
  2. Naresh: 14 years at the time of arrival from Bhopal on 24.12.2005- wild caught.
  3. Rani: Adult, brought from Nainital Zoo on 15.03.2005 – wild caught.
  4. Xing Xing: D.O.B. 16.01.2005 bred at NZP – parentage Ramu and Priya.
  5. Priya: Adult from Chhatbir Zoo captive bred parentage not known.
  6. Kunti: Adult brought from Chhatbir Zoo captive bred parentage not known.
 
 
  Animal in Wild: Royal Bengal tiger is found throughout out India except in the part of Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab. The habitat of the Indian tiger is scrub land, humid evergreen forests and grassy swamps.  
 
 
  Threats:The main threat is due to degradation and fragmentation of habitat, causing severe man animal conflict, and demand of tiger parts in global al market. The dependency on forest due to growing human and live stock population in around tiger habitat is causing immense pressure because the developmental schemes have not reach the population.
